Dear Parents,
Swine flu is
a respiratory illness caused by the type A (H1N1) influenza virus that has
originated from pigs. It is contagious and easily spreading from person to
person all over the world.
In
its continuous effort to reduce the spread of this pandemic flu among students,
the school has taken some preventive steps during this academic year, which will
be regularly communicated to you. You will be also updated with any new
procedures or measures taken by the school or the health authorities. Therefore,
we count on your vital role to achieve the desired results out of our action
plan during this flu season.
If
you suspect your child with any of the following flu-like symptoms; fever,
cough, sore throat, headache, chills, fatigues, body aches, vomiting, or
diarrhea, you are requested to:
1.
Keep your
child at home for at least 7 days.
2.
Follow-up
with your family doctor for further evaluation of the case and proper health
care.
3.
Submit a
medical report on the case upon his/her return to school.
4.
Inform the
school clinic of your child’s chronic diseases like diabetes, asthma, or
allergies.
5.
The school will provide sanitizers in each classroom from KG1 till Grade
3.Hence, we kindly request that you send a
sanitizer
with your child and encourage
him/her to use it while at school. Rubbing in
between fingers, nails and the palm of the hands is required.
Kindly be advised that the school will be asking you to pick up your child from school
immediately if he/she shows any of the
flu-like
symptoms. Therefore, you are requested to update the school clinic and
administration with all your contact numbers in case of emergency.
Parents
and students can prevent infection by avoiding close contact with people who
show influenza-like symptoms and taking the following measures:
v
Clean hands
thoroughly with soap and water or with a hand sanitizer on a regular basis.
v
Avoid
touching your mouth, nose, and eyes.
v
Practice good
health habits, including getting adequate sleep.
v
Eat
nutritious food to enhance your immunity against viruses.
v
Keep yourself
physically active.
The school
will be promoting proper hand hygiene to the students as part of its preventive
measures through:
v
Teaching
students proper hand washing and providing appropriate supplies for it.
v
Regular
cleaning and cleansing of the school surfaces.
v
Advising
students to cover their noses and mouths with tissue when coughing or sneezing.
We are working closely with the health authorities to monitor the
situation about the progress of the virus and make decisions about the best
steps for the school. For now we are doing everything we can to keep our school
functioning as usual. If we work together as a team, we are confident that we
can minimize the number of cases and slow the spread of H1N1.
